“Mixing pop and politics he asks me what the use is
I offer him embarrassment and my usual excuses
While looking down the corridor
Out to where the van is waiting
I’m looking for the great leap forwards”

Billy Bragg, Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards

My name is Brendan Oswald. I currently live in Italy , but I move around on a fairly regular basis. I took up writing a couple of years ago, penning articles fairly infrequently on topics that interest me. These largely include sport, particularly Newcastle United, and I am a regular contributor to The Popular Side, Newcastle’s only print fanzine (“basking in the light of the fifteen fame filled minutes of the fanzine writer”).

Increasingly interested in politics, who wouldn’t be these days? As a liberal who believes in the EU, 2016 has left me feeling on the wrong side of history, but these things turn round. I lived in Ukraine during the revolution and subsequent Russian invasion, so take a keen interest in that corner of the world.

The opinions expressed in this blog are entirely my own, and nothing to do with any particular employer (“One leap forward, two leaps back. Will politics get me the sack?”).
